Re: The Yellow Brown Shade .SG18.

Good morning
I think this shade is a reasonable description of a shade that does occur on (normally worn) prints from several of thes plates of this issue.

Re: Toned Paper , Penny Red Stars

Good afternoon. When amendments to the last edition of SG's Spec Cat were being discussed, I was very strongly in favour of deleting all references to yellowish or cream-toned paper. Unfortunately, I was overruled by the powers that be at SG (I haven't given up the quest to get it changed, just move...

Re: Lake Red Imperf Sg11

If we can organise a replacement meeting at a future SG evening meeting, I would be happy to do so. I think it may warrant an article in the GBJ, but I may not have good news for anyboday, based on what I know so far!!

Re: Unidentified Archer Plate on Cover?

Hello Wigan878 I am sory but I am going to disappoint you. Your stamp is not an Archer, but I understand entirely why you should think it is. The clearer of the two backstamps shows an obvious 1853 date, but the less clear one looks very much like it ends in a 4. So, I believe that the 1853 date is ...

Project Funding - Inks of the Penny Red

Ladies and Gentlemen I have a request to make to all members of the GBPS, but particularly those interested in the thorny question of the inks of the 1d Red. Over the course of the last two or three weeks, I and three or four others have been putting together a 'Spec' for carrying out some further S...

Re: Help with Plating Please

Russell Welcome to the world of plating - a study that you can take as far as you want to or as far as time permits! You say that your stamp has been repaired, but, to my eye, it does not seem to be. The check letters were punched into the plate by hand, and there are very few errors that required c...

Transfer from previous board: original post 129

Hello
I have checked MB plate 177 and the serifs do not touch the v of the M. The only other reasonably notable features of 177 MB are that the right side is pretty strong and the left side is weaker in the upper half than the lower. Apart from that, there are no features to note.
