Re: The 5d postage due with printing error.

Some years ago, I had a website on postage dues, but it fell by the wayside when I changed hosting service. It had info on printing plates and constant flaws as discussed in this thread. S&T Joined occurs in several positions on different values, I have examples on ½d, 2d, 3d, 5d, and 6d. I've d...

Re: Query on booklet BB6

Added a scan of the back of BB6 edition 34.

For men in khaki,
For men in blue,
For men in mufti,
For women, too!

I had to look up "mufti":
civilian clothes when worn by a person in the armed forces
(the booklet was issued during WWI).

Re: Query on booklet BB6

Possibly this booklet was glued to an album page and the original cover damaged then replaced with a piece of red card. There's nothing published on back covers but Stanton's card index lists booklet content, including back cover adverts. I've scanned his index and put it here: http://1drv.ms/1BKmx6n

Re: Query on booklet BB6

There should be an advert for Swan Pens on the outside back cover.
The double staple holes are a bit of a give away too.

Editions 504-508 have the Postage Rates omitted (back of 4th and 5th interleaves are blank). These were the last editions of Series 4 2/- booklets which were replaced by 2/6 booklets when the letter rate increased from 1½d to 2½d in May 1940. Seems likely the rates were omitted in anticipation of th...

The CD of advert booklet panes was still available as of last year (2012), but the author's email address changed as follows

"Are you suggesting that this occured in the same booklet?" No, not at all. Value+edition on one pane, interleaf number on the next pane on the sheet, not the next pane in the booklet. When the mass was cut, all value+edition would be in one booklet, all interleaf numbers in a different bo...

Following up about the inverted numbering, Ian Harvey points out that the markings were in the central vertical gutter. This gutter had an upright booklet on one side and an inverted one on the other. When the mass was guillotined, one booklets gets half of the marking upright, another gets the othe...

I can add 294 with manuscript value+edition. My guess is that early editions were in manuscript across two panes (value+edition on one, interleaf number on the next); later editions were typeset on a single pane. 2s: 298,299,300 manuscript; 2s: 302,303,304 typeset; 3s: 294,295 manuscript; 3s: 296,29...

http://www.gbps.org.uk/boards/images/transferred/2200_1.jpg Can't believe that 18 months have gone by since we discussed this topic. I went back to the BMPA and looked at all I could find on the blotters, mostly from POST 52/1127 (Stamp Books - Advertisement interleaves of Blotting and Cardboard), ...

Dubarry coloured adverts

Looking for help with Dubarry adverts. A few months ago, while looking at the plate of Dubarry adverts on page 173 of BSB, we noticed some discrepancies between the image and the text. This started a project to reconstruct the Dubarry plates. We have made some progress but would like to solicit help...

BSB, while certainly the authoritative work, may not be correct here. 22 or 23 are the number of colours that Ford advertised, and so the number of colours that are therotically possible: "in 22 beautiful colours" "in 23 colours" and advertising material from the period: "ma...

Booklet Wrappers

http://www.gbps.org.uk/boards/images/transferred/165_1.jpg Some bundles of booklets have a wrapper that states: "remove band and place in machine this side up" but the bundles I have are some front cover up, some down, some threads to left, some to right, and many are mixed. Probably the ...
