SG 8 Plate 45 Query

Post by JohnB »

I have stamp NH which has Fisher/Brown measurements very close to those for Plate 45. It also shows NW and NE corner star characteristics of this plate described in the QV Spec catalogue. However it has a weak hgl below the N which is tilted West. There is also a very pronounced dot of colour above the E of POSTAGE. Neither of these are mentioned so have I plated it incorrectly ? It has a Mx cancel which makes it desirable if it is Plate 45. Advice would be much appreciated

Could you show us a scan, please? Has it got the "E"- flaw in Postage?

Thank you for your reply. Sorry for the delay. The stamp has no trace of the 'E' flaw. I have tried to add a scan - I hope it is successful. Will try another way if not.

The scan worked fine. It appears to me to be from Plate 31, which has a slightly tilting 'N' with a short line under it.

Dear John,

Following Mike's suggestion please see a comparison between your stamp and a photo of from the imprimatur sheet for plate 31, position NH
