Hi all,
I have a stamp booklet holder which is machine tooled and has Crown ER May 12. 1937 engraved at bottom right. Interesting because that is the date of the Coronation of George 6th, not Edward VIII, who was not in fact crowned.
Does anyone know anything about this which may shed light on the background, maker or the inscription.
Cheers
Ron

Hi Ron,
*Stamp book holder*
I have very recently come to KE8, having sat comfortably in The GB Coronation of KGVI for decades. I have been going through my sheet material and a few blocks - a little Ali Baba's cave I collected many years ago with the idea of going through it one day... I have a lot of booklet material that I haven't touched. Ever. I'll get around to it, and if I find anything related to your stamp booklet holder I'll write at once.

*Constant flaws*
Meanwhile, I hope this posting might contact anybody with a full sheet or more of the tuppence ha'penny blue. I'll post scans of the flaws I have (I have a sheet of stop and no stop) to see whether they are constant or accidental.

*Dry Print*
I saw your posting about dry print. I have read recently about dry prints of controls and cutting lines - on sheets where the stamps are perfect. This strikes me as being very odd. Is there a known and confirmed reason/cause? I have a large piece with a perfect dry print. Would it interest anybody were I to post it?

Best to one and all,

Robin

Hello Robin,
Welcome back to KEVIII
Thanks for the posting and for keeping an eye open for any information on the stamp holder. I must admit I am not holding my breath as there does not seem to be much info. about.

Regarding the constant flaw - I have a full sheet of the 2½d (which unfortunately a vandal split into four and removed the top and bottom margins). This is Control A36 (no bar) cylinder 2 no dot. I would be interested in anything you posted regarding KEVIII.
Please do post the dry print examples you have - this list is pretty quiet and anything that will help stir up an ants nest would be welcome. The more information the better.
I dont have 'dry print' examples myself though the Controls vary considerably, being quite faint in some cases.
Look forward to more postings from you.
Regards.
Ron.

I have got an OXO money box for KEVIII! You will recall that the KGVI Coronation stamps were issued on 13 May 1937, the day after KGVI's coronation. The 12 May 1937 had already been chosen for KEVIII, and as arrangements had already been made, they did not change it. When the booklet holder came out, they did not know that Edward would abdicate.

I haven't heard of, or seen, an Oxo money box.
Amazing what is around isn't it.
Appreciate the comments regarding the date etc.
Regards.
Ron.
