Dear All,

I have a large piece (part of a large-size manila envelope) that carries a KE8 ha'penny, cancelled by what is to me a very unusual CDS. I understand that it might be from a "Standard/Kusselorf trial". In the corner of the piece is written in soft, faint pencil, "Standard large die
Whit??? 10/152"

Please could somebody tell me about the Klussendorf canceling machine trial in 1937, and who and what is the reference for identifying the CDS?

In searching the web I have found numerous references to Klussendorf as a maker of coil stamps similar to Frama labels, and an apparent short-lived use of these in Israel - but this is all decades after 1937.

Thanks!

Robin R

Robin -- sorry, I meant to send you an article on this machine mark, but I forgot to scan it. I'll dig it out when I get back home.

Hi Robin,
We think this is one of the Dr Whitney's references, but it has changed number since
our version of his catalogue which is VERY OLD..third edition..(on our version it is number 222 not 152)
This should have 5 wavy bars after it, which on your copy presumably has been cut off.
This was a London Double circle Code Z with a larger die than the previous one in
use from 1930-34 and this larger die was in use from 1935-1937

So does that help?

Cheers
Ron and Eunice
