Being very lazy here and hoping to pick up some info without the tedious task of trawling the net - how was the overprinting (Army Official) undertaken on the 1d lilac, I have two pairs which both show the differing position of the overprint when compared to each other, all other pairs show the same location in exact terms.
Also the position on the stamp seems to vary greatly being up, down or too the sides with some very weak prints while others very heavy.
