1900 halfpenny blue-green plates

Post by petrod »

I recently purchased a bottom (left) strip of 8 MUH which exhibits two cuts in the marginal rule. Does anyone know if there is any way of “plating” this issue as with the Edward VII and George V stamps?

Some work has been done on the QV halfpenny, but not as advanced as for the KEVII and KGV issues. The GBPS published a book by Clive Akerman in 1970 entitled The Plating of the Half Penny 1887–1900, focusing on printing flaws; and in 1988 Tony Wiseman published A Guide to 1887 ½d Controls which included three transparent overlays used to identify control positions. Unfortunately both books might be difficult to find.

Just noticed a reference in Wiseman's 1988 book to articles concerning marginal rules in GSM April and May 1986.

Thanks Mike. Any idea where I might find those issues of GSM? Unfortunately he reference to controls in Wiseman's book would be of no help in this case, as the controls are not on my piece.

Thanks again Mike. Unfortunately neither of the articles really help with my query. However, perhaps during the next eleven years I may have another brainwave! (See Postal History posts)
