"A Christmas carol" for postal workers !

Post by Wilding Mad »

I was recently reading an article published by the BBC on the current status of the postal strike currently in operation.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63732421

It will be interesting to see what develops under the circumstances, as charges for postal services have rocketed over the last few years far outweighing any cost of living rises we have yet seen EG: first class postage increased from 85 pence to 95 pence (11.76%) W/E 4⁴/22.

Being a public listed company not only have royal mail (now known as international distributions services) got to survive by making a profit but also the shareholders need to see a return for their money invested in the company in the form of dividends.

As with any public listed company they are never sure of their survival and when a company of national interest is sold by the government one must wonder who picks up the tab if they should go under ?

Could this country survive without a postal service ?

The same applies to our railway transport system and care for the sick and elderly within the NHS.

What are your feelings as philatelists on the subject ?

Wilding mad.
