Fords Blotting Paper in 3/- booklets
Hello All,
Having been 'geed up' by Robin R to do something with my run of Edward VIII
booklets I have a query about blotting paper in the 3/- booklet, edition
number 320.
The first interleaf is Fords Blotting Paper and in the booklets I have there
is one printed on 'Golden Yellow' blotting paper, one on 'Alpine Green' and
two on 'Blue'.
Does anyone know how I can find out how many different colours were used for
this advert.?
Is there anyone on this list with copies of Edition 320 who can let me know
which colours are used in their copies?
Isn't it amazing how one can get drawn into research of such items
Regards.
Ron.
Apologies for cross posting but just in case it was missed in the KEVIII section by someone whose main interest is booklets.

Ford's blotter type D found in BC3 ed 320 in 8 colours:
Golden Yellow, Blue, Pale Blue, Mauve, Scarlet,
Apple Green, Dark Green, Deep Green.
Never seen Alpine Green, typo for Apple Green?

British Stamp Booklets - part 8 - ALEXANDER and NEWBERY
Pages175/6
I have some notes which I made a long time ago, but cannot now make sense of! Silly old man! But BP was not in every book.
However I believe all 22/3 colours appeared at least once in varying thickness

Paul,
Many thanks for your swift reply and my apologies for what was indeed a 'wrong 'un' it should as you say have been apple green.
Appreciate that.
Robin,
Thanks for the information and I will check out that BSB Part 8.
I know the feeling about notes made and losing the sense of.
Regards to all.
Ron.

Ron,
An example of Ford's white blotting paper can be found in the 1935 Silver Jubilee 2/- booklet #300. In addition, I have an A4 sized example of the Golden Yellow blotter going spare! Let me have your postal address, and I'll send it on - always supposing you'd like it as a display item...?
Best Wishes
Harvey

BSB, while certainly the authoritative work,
may not be correct here. 22 or 23 are the
number of colours that Ford advertised, and
so the number of colours that are therotically
possible:
"in 22 beautiful colours"
"in 23 colours"
and advertising material from the period:
"manufactured in 24 colours"
However BC3 is a fairly common booklet, with
many examples seen, and seems to come only in
the eight colours posted above.
BSB also lists Type C as 22 colours, but
only seems to come in Golden Yellow.

Robin,
Why had I not seen that in British Stamp Booklets - part 8 ?
Mystery explained - I have parts 1-7 but unfortunately no part 8.
I will have to find out if part 8 is still available.
Is there much more information regarding the KEVIII booklets in part 8 than
in part 3 ?
Were the contents the same throughout the print of each individual edition
with the exception being the different colours of blotting paper in 320?
I had started to go through the booklets listing advertising interleaves as
well as the stamp content etc. and having checked part 3 I think I may be
spending a lot of hours
duplicating information already available.
Is this so?
Eunice softened the blow by commenting "At least you were working on similar
lines to the experts, so you are not brain dead yet!". (Yes, she is a
collector herself)
I appreciate the input on this thread..
Regards.

Harvey,
Many thanks for the generous offer and I will take you up on that willingly.
It will go nicely with the selection of panes and covers supplied by someone with a collection to drool over!
Snail mail:-
E and R Shanahan
61 Melrose Drive
Flinders View 4305
Queensland Australia
Many thanks and best regards.
Ron,
Paul,
Many thanks for that break down of 22/23/24
It gets complicated doesn't it?
I appreciate all the help here.

BP was added to many books over a long period - apparently at random
I am not sure if anyone has been able to collect sufficient material to be certain what was used - but there is no reason to suppose all the colours were not used somewhere!

Ron and Paul,
I feel you may be on to something. My sources for the Blotting paper were an Unpublished book, R.G Woodall, Philatelic Advertiser, Vol 11, p19-21(1948) and Stan Hills, Stamp Weekly, 11 June 1970, pp10/11.
They all said roughly the same. I think someone needs to look up the records in the BPMA to see if they can find out any more. Also can any information be added from members
via the newsletter, not everyone likes using computers. Jean

Many thanks for the offer of the set of booklets but unfortunately I had already ordered them from UK before I read your note on the list. I must be getting impatient in my old age. (Actually, more likely I did it before I forgot!) I appreciate the offer anyway, though it would have been a fair trip from Qld to Sheffield
Jean
I have read the thread again and think I have missed something as you said "I feel you may be on to something"
What was that in relation to?
I have also re-read the Appendix B2 you so kindly sent me but am unclear if the advert was used in any other KEVIII booklet than the edition 320?
Can you set me straight on that please?
It is nice to see the amount of interest in this and I greatly appreciate the input of members.
Jean has a valid point about computers not being everyones cup of tea which is a shame as it does take so much more time via the newsletter.
Regards to all
Ron.
AAMOI what is the percentage of members who have computers (irrespective of whether they use the discussion board) does anyone know?

You may all be correct in supposing not all colours are in all booklets, only 1 colour, or more, may be in 1 booklet.
A survey of the members with blotting paper in their booklets may be of interest.
I too have a BP interleaf in white from a Silver Jubilee booklet but mine (a genuine interleaf) is in the form of a fridge magnet bought from Ross Candlish as well as a Dubarry interleaf both sitting on the fridge.

It sounds fun with the combination of colours in various booklets and it
would be interesting to find how many variations there are around.
That survey sounds like a good idea.
I have suggested that Jean put her fridge in for a competition - are there
likely to be any other contestants in the philatelic phridge magnet field?

Can't believe that 18 months have gone by since we discussed this topic.
I went back to the BMPA and looked at all I could find on the blotters, mostly from POST 52/1127 (Stamp Books - Advertisement interleaves of Blotting and Cardboard), about 160 documents.
Here's a link to my summary, showing all colours that I know of. Would be happy to hear from anyone with a colour not recorded.
