Thanks, Scott. I have also been informed by Bill Carritte about these. He sent along the GSM article about the new denominations and the codes.
Best regards, Bob

I just got a copy of the new GBP 1.65 small Machin on a commercial cover (my first and only copy so far) and noticed that the curvy overprint of "Royal Mail" just NW of the queen's forehead says "MIIL" rather than "MAIL". The extra "I" is normally formed and i...

I am not an expert on fiscals, but these are clearly embossed stamps used for bills or notes--i.e., debt instruments. The lending bank probably used pre-printed forms with a fancy imprint to the left of the document that left a place for the embossing to be applied in the amount correct for the valu...

One astute observer communicated to me that he was suspicious of this cancel, primarily because D22, relative to the bars, was skewed--and the base of the second "2" seemed particularly twisted. He suspected the canceling device is a fabrication. Good observation, in my book.

D22 Ciudad Bolivar cancel Plate 150
I recently ran across a Penny Red Plate 150 with what looks like a D22 cancel, which is recorded only as Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela. This cancel was reported previously on this series, but only plate 133, as far as I could tell. Has anyone seen this cancel used anywhere but Ciudad Bolivar? Or seen it...

I've seen this or something very similar at a show. If like what I saw, which had a fuzzy impression, this is not an official die impression but a replica of some sort. The one I saw was not an engraving but an offset print, using ink that sits above the surface, like some business cards. It's inter...

2/6 brown
I was reviewing Gerry Bator's articles in the GSM March and April 97 on the KG6 2/6 brown and noticed that the Gibbons specialised catalogue says that the two gashed crown varieties Q29b and Q29c come from row 2/7 and row 5/5, respectively. However, Bator says Q29b comes from (Pane 1) row 5/5 and wh...

http://www.gbps.org.uk/boards/images/transferred/406_1.jpg This sounds like Stitt Dibden's Type 87, which he said was used in the Inland Branch from about 1905 to about 1911. He described it as being 24 mm and having letters above the I.S. See the scan below from his book: Newspaper Branch Cancella...

I just found this in SG Specialised Volume I, p. 36: "Invalidation: Line-engraved issues were declared invalid along with some early surface-printed stamps from 1 June 1901. Those Victorian issues not included were demonetised later on 1 July 1915, also included with the stamps were revenues an...

I just ran across a price list from Aug 82 for a "seldom seen" cover bearing a 1d. Venetian Red dated 29 June 1915. The list said that was the last day of validity for QV stamps. I can't verify the accuracy of that statement. However, I do have a penny red plate 86 single stamp cancelled M...

Thank you for sending me scans of the article. I had been on the hunt for this article for what seems like years now. What a great society to have members like you. And what a nice way we have in the discussion board of communicating and cooperating. My hat is off to you and the society. You both ce...

I am looking for a copy of Gerry Bater's second article of this value, from the November 1995 Gibbons Stamp Monthly. I have part 1 from the October issue. I would be most appreciative of getting a copy--and will be very happy to reimburse costs.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Harvey--If I were researching this topic, I would consult Alastair Hacket's work, The 1935 Silver Jubilee Issue of Great Britain (1982, the Edinburgh Stamp Shop), and Hugh Vallency's Check List of British Photograveur Stamps and Jubilee Stamps, 1934-36 (1936, The Vallency Press, London). Unfortunate...

The Bradbury 5/- on Plate 1/2--ribbed paper. Does anyone know whether the January '21 printing was the one that included ribbed paper? Or was it another printing. Given that the 2/6 on ribbed paper appeared in early '21 (I have recorded April), it is likely that the 5/- was printed at about that tim...

This is a mid-sheet marker between AF and AG. It indicates where to divide the sheet in half vertically. There is another one at the bottom of the sheet (TF-TG). A horizontal line crossed the mid sheet marker and indicated where the sheet should be pinned for peforation. A fan-shaped ornament was us...

2d value--Wiseman GSM articles
I am looking for a copy of Tony Wiseman's article in the May 1992 Gibbons Stamp Monthly (the first of at least four in the series). I am also looking for the fourth and subsequent parts of the series. I have parts 2 and 3 from the GSMs of July 92 and September 92. A scan or photocopy of the missing ...
