Unusual Underprint

Post by Andy Donaldson »

All,

I was sent a scan of an underprint found on a handful of 1/2d vermilion and 1d lilac stamps. Has anybody seen anything like this before and if so any clues to the origin?

Image

Not seen an example in the flesh yet but from the high res scan they don't appear to be modern ink-jet fakes (as no speckling around the lines).

Thanks,

Andy -- can't help with the underprint, I'm afraid (it does look very curious), but your post reminded me to add your Underprints & Overprints site to the links section.
