Monogram identity - mourning covers

Post by NLPayne »

Hi all,
One of my (many) areas of collecting is for Mourning Covers...not too morbid hopefully! Many of these mourning covers, have embossed memorials on the rear and I like the challenge on finding out out their producers.

However, I do have several that have personal monograms on also. I have two that I just cannot decipher....have anyone come across either of these before or even know what the initials are!? Every time I look at them, I change my mind on the initials!

I have attached the files as I am unsure how to embed them into this message directly. The wax seal is that of the Order of the Garter, dating to 1881.

The "Mary" monogram dates to 1871.

Any help welcomed. Thank you.
