Penny Red - February 1841 dates
Penny Red - February 1841 dates
I am compiling a list of Penny Reds on cover with February 1841 dates - can anyone help?
Re: Penny Red - February 1841 dates
Bosworth,
Is your intention to publish something in the GBJ?
How many have you recorded so far? For example I believe of Plate 9 in red there are at least 8 recorded by a specialist.
Also, are you a member of what was the Mulready Group (now http://stamp-forums.com)? They have over time had quite a lot of 1d Red February 1841 dates mentioned.
P.S. If I am correct as to who I think you are, have we corresponded in the last week on other PH matters?

Hi Bosworth,
I think that it is worth researching and recording these early dates of usage, i would be interested to know how many you have discovered.

At present about two dozen, but there is a lot of work yet to do.
Re: Penny Red - February 1841 dates
Just one! Plate8 'SF' state2, Bishopsgate St - Chancery Lane dated 26 February 1841.
Althought the external postmark is not very clear the document is dated internally February 1841.
As Winston suggested it's a good idea to join the Mulready Group (http://stamp-forums.com) as you might well get more information through that group.

Thank you - image much appreciated.

Further to the earlier posting here is an extract from the spreadsheet of a Plate 9 collector. I have removed the source names where it is an individual collector.
