High Values - Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II

Introduction

Max has been collecting high value stamps since boyhood, and this display was created to show the varied usage of the stamps through the years - postal, telegraphic, and fiscal.

It covers the range from the first issue in 1867, three values required for high overseas postage and payment of telegraph services, to "Castles" stamps of Queen Elizabeth II.

Material shown includes (for example) values on cover from the Queen Victoria 2s brown up to to the £5 orange, with many Seahorse usages, a frame of covers bearing the PUC £1, a study of the Channel Islands combined customs duty and parcel post labels across the reigns, and the King George VI "Festival" issue used on forms for prescription charges under the 1949 NHS Amendment Act.
