Jersey Stamp Issues, 1975-79 - An Issue is Born

Anthony (Tony) D Theobald of Tilehurst, Reading, was an official Royal Air Force artist renowned for his paintings of aircraft and related subjects. The Jersey Post Office commissioned him to produce stamps to mark to 50th anniversary of the Royal Air Forces Association, Jersey in 1975 and this display shows the work that he undertook to produce the final set of four stamps.
He started with pencil layouts and eventually moved on to the creation of final colour hand-painted artwork for the stamps. Sensibly, the JPO also commissioned Tony to design the First Day Cover envelope and the Presentation Pack to ensure a cohesive appearance to the whole product range.
The stamps were printed by Courvoisier of Switzerland and issued on 30 October 1975.
St John's Ambulance Association, Jersey, 1977
The Jersey Post Office commissioned Tony Theobald to design a set for the 100th anniversary of the St John's Ambulance Association, Jersey. This display shows the pencil layouts and hand-painted artwork. He was also commissioned him to design the FDC and Presentation Pack, ensuring a cohesive appearance.
The stamps were printed by Courvoisier of Switzerland and issued on 24 June 1977.
The 25th International Air Rally, Jersey, 1979
Tony Theobald is renowned for his aircraft paintings, so the Jersey Post Office commissioned him to produce an issue commemorating the 25th International Air Rally. This display shows the work he undertook, starting with pencil layouts and moving on to hand-painted artwork. The JPO also commissioned him to design the FDC envelope and Presentation Pack, ensuring a cohesive appearance to the product range.
The stamps were printed by Courvoisier of Switzerland and issued on 24 April 1979.
